That's all folks (a little reflection)

What an amazing week! It's been 4 years since our last Summer International Trip, so nearly all of the young people on the trip had never taken part in one before.

It only took a couple of days for them to get into the flow of hostel life and the fantastic experience it gives them. It's the little things you notice that gives them skills for life; making their own breakfast and lunches, having the confidence to speak to hostel staff (who's first language isn't English) when buying snacks and drinks and mixing with children their own age from different countries. Hopefully you will notice a new found confidence in your child or children?

They have also had the opportunity to take part in some unique and amazing activities. From the power kites, rafting through and over the waves on the sea, go-karting on Ice and flying through the air on zip lines and roller coaster!

As well as all the fun activities their has been the educational\cultural experiences too. They have reflected on life in The Netherlands during the occupation and tried to understand what it would have been like to spend two years of their life in hiding when visiting the Anne Frank Museum.

Trying to pick out a favourite would be impossible, but I'm sure the Scouts will have one or two they will remember above the others.

Why do we volunteer our time to do this thing called Scouting? To give children unique and memorable experiences, an opportunity to have fun with friends and make new ones, grow as individuals and get to do many of the things we were never able to do as a child.

We also have a good time too and have an amazing team of volunteers who work hard before, during and after a trip to ensure a great time is hard by all.

After a week of fun, education, and laughter it will soon fall silent.

Time for some rest, before it all starts again in a few weeks time 🙂

The journey home

It's been a busy morning. The Scouts know the breakfast and packed lunches making routine now so that didn't take too long to do.

They then had to strip beds, clean rooms and load up the coach. All done in good time, so we have set off 30 minutes earlier than planned rather than standing around in the rain.

We are now on the coach heading towards Belgium on the journey to Calias before the final leg back to Silver End.

The last day

We have had our last full day in The Netherlands. The Ice Karting was an fantastic experience and not something that many people back at home would have ever had the opportunity to do. It will certainly be something all those that took part will remember for a long time.

The traffic was really heavy on the way back to Noordwijk due to an accident, but we still got back in time for dinner before heading to the trampoline park.

This had many different interactive trampolines - again not seen in the UK.

After getting back it's been the normal final thoughts filming, banner signing, packing bags and then an hour of free time.

The journey home starts tomorrow morning.

Friday morning

It's the last day of activities 🙁

Something very different today that we don't believe anyone has done before.... Go-karting on Ice!

We are now in the coach heading to Rupchen, so will take around 90 minutes to get there from the Hostel. So enough time to watch a movie during the journey.

Thursday round up

Sorry for lack of updates yesterday - it was a very busy one!

The climbing centre was amazing. So much to do and the 2.5 hours flew past. It was great to see all the Scouts encouraging and supporting each other around the courses.

Noordwijkerhout wasn't the biggest town we have ever let the Scouts go shopping in, but enough shops to spend their money and the Tourist Information done a roaring trade in selling fridge magnets and keyrings 🙂

In the evening we took over the bowling alley as we had booked all 8 lanes. After an hour of throwing balls at skittles there was then some free time before bed and lights out.

Thursday's adventure

Were has the week gone? Can't believe it's Thursday already!

Today we are off to Rotterdam to Adventure City for high ropes and climbing.

We have just left the hostel and it's about an hour's drive away, so time to chill out on the coach before 2.5 hours of activities.

On the way back we will be stopping in Noordwijk Town to see what what shops there are to get souvenirs or gifts from.

Wednesday evening

After dinner of pasta, meatball, sauce and salad our educational day finished with a viewing of the BBC series about Anne Frank. After visiting the house and the walking tour this afternoon it helped to complete the story.
